This quiz reveals the unique situations that surrounded various conceptions, births, and early years of babies recorded in the Bible.
Question: The manger in
which baby Jesus was placed was made of wood.
Answer: False. The
manger is referred to in Luke 2:7, 12, and 16. Yet, we are never told just
what kind of material from which it was constructed. Some believe that
it was actually cut out of stone.

Question: When Elizabeth was
pregnant, the baby (John the Baptist) leaped in her womb.
Various modern misconceptions surrounding the Nativity are exposed and their origin explained by these concise questions and surprising answers.
Question: Jesus was born

Answer: False. You'll

Also:
Question: The shepherds and
the Magi saw his star.
Ever since Eden, clothing has played a part in the human race. The material in "A Clothing Quiz" adds new significance to something old hat.
Question: A demon possessed
man who wore no clothes met Jesus.
Answer: True. Luke 8:27.
Later, after Jesus had cast evil spirits out of this man, the Bible tells
us that some from that vicinity, ". . . went out to see what was done; and
came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting
at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid"
(Luke 8:35).
Various animals, birds, and reptiles of the Bible are displayed in such a way that participants have a greater understanding and deeper appreciation of the sovereignty of God.
Question: Noah was told
to take seven pairs of some animals and birds with him on the ark.
Answer: True. Genesis
7:1-3. Noah later sacrificed some of these (see Genesis 8:20).
Also:
Question: The apostle Paul
was thrown from his horse while traveling to Damascus.
Christ's Passion and the power of His resurrection are presented in a nutshell. The reader is made aware of some falsehoods that have managed to creep into a familiar story.
Question: Following his
resurrection, Jesus appeared to more than 500 people at one time.
Answer: True. The apostle
Paul pointed to this as a great proof for the resurrection. Not only did
Jesus appear to individuals and the disciples, but also "above five hundred
brethren at once" (1 Corinthians 15:6).
Also:
Question: After their last
meal together, Jesus and his disciples sang a hymn.
Common phrases that are usually considered to have their origins from the Scriptures are listed and then, in the answers, commented upon.
Question: The Lord's Prayer.
Answer: False. Multitudes
have recited what is commonly called the Lord's Prayer (see Matthew 6:9-13;
Luke 11:2-4). However, this phrase is never actually used by either
of the gospel writers. Some have felt that it would have been more
accurate to coin it "The Disciples' Prayer" since it was intended to be a
model for Christ's followers.
Also:
Question: The Good Shepherd.
Some of the strange things that were eaten and drunk in Bible times will offer food for serious thought.
Question: Jesus was a vegetarian.
Answer: False. We are
never told that Jesus was a vegetarian. However, the Bible tells us that
Jesus ate fish (Luke 24:36-43), and being a Jew he would have eaten the Passover
lamb as prescribed in Exodus 12 and Deuteronomy 16:1-8.
Also:
Question: The cities of Sodom
and Gomorrah had all their food taken away.
Question: Noah and his
family heard the screams and pleading of those who were outside the ark trying
to get in.
Answer: False. Much
is left to the imagination as to what Noah and those with him actually experienced
at the time of the flood (see Genesis 6-9).
Also:
Question: A woman being partially
clothed and caught in adultery was brought to Jesus.
This is an examination of some people who have prayed, their postures and places of prayer, along with answers and denials to specific requests.
Question: The Lord answered
Elijah's prayer to die.
Answer: False. We are
told that God opened and closed the heavens in response to Elijah's prayers
(James 5:17-18), brought the dead back to life (1 Kings 17:21), and even
answered by fire on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18). Nevertheless, He did
not fulfill His prophet's request to die. Eventually the Lord took
Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind (2 Kings 2:1, 11).
Also:
Question: Mary (the mother
of Jesus) prayed for those who crucified her son.
Question: Solomon had seven
hundred wives.
Answer: True. 1 Kings
11:3. Even though Solomon was given great wisdom, he violated the Lord's
will by marrying foreign women (1 Kings 11:1-2). Furthermore, the Bible
tell us that ". . . when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his
heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God,
as was the heart of David his father." (1 Kings 11:4)
In this quiz, senior citizens are given a front-row seat and their importance is noted.
Question: Solomon became
more and more devoted to the Lord with age.
Answer: False. Solomon,
who was known for his great wisdom (1 Kings 10:23-24), was not immune to
sin. In his latter years, he was led into idolatry by foreign women.
The Bible tells us, ". . . when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away
his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his
God, as was the heart of David his father." (1 Kings 11:4)
The sights, smells, and sounds recorded in the Bible make for a fascinating study.
Question: Isaac smelled
the clothes Jacob was wearing.
Answer: True. Genesis
27:27. Earlier in this chapter we are told that Rebekah had taken some
of Esau's clothes for Jacob to wear (27:15). No doubt the smell of
the clothes Jacob was wearing helped convince Isaac that he was blessing Esau.
Question: Goliath was great
in physical size, but young and inexperienced in fighting.
Answer: False. In fact,
King Saul pointed out David's inadequacy for the task of fighting Goliath
by stating, ". . . thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth"
(1 Samuel 17:33). Evidently Goliath had a great deal of experience
on the battle field.
Here numerous misconceptions and presuppositions that surround angels are drawn into question. The scriptural evidence that this quiz contains helps the curious to understand these seldom seen helpers a little more clearly.
Question: Angels sometimes
play gold harps.

evidence angels play harps.
Also:

Question: Satan is in hell.
Answer: False. Often
Satan is presented as being the one who rules over evil men and women in
hell. Although we know he will eventually be confined to a place of
eternal torment (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:7-12), we are never told that
he is presently there or that he will rule in hell.
Also:

to get rich fall into temptation.
Jesus is given a thorough examination and found to have a family, feelings, and desires much like the rest of the human race. This is a look at the human side of the Son of God.
Question: Jesus became
hungry.
Answer: True. Matthew
4:2, 21:18; Mark 11:12; Luke 4:2. It's not a sin to be hungry.
God has given our bodies a built-in alarm clock which tells us when we need
nourishment. But when Jesus was tempted, He put the will of His Father
before His own desires.
Also:
Question: Jesus looked at
some people with anger.
The lives of Adam, Eve, Cain, and Abel are probed and the biblical record of their creation, temptation, and banishment are reviewed.
Question: Both Adam and
Eve ate part of the apple.
Answer: False. It is
true that Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:6, 12, 13, 17),
but we are never told it was an apple.

fig leaves together to wear as a covering.

of her fainting.

mother of Solomon.

Even today, many commonly quoted Scripture passages can be traced back to this popular translation. Listed below are some phrases which many have assumed could be found in the pages of their Bibles, but in reality have no scriptural basis. See if you can distinguish between those which are taken from the King James Bible and those which are not.
Question: God moves in
a mysterious way.
Answer: False. It is
certainly true that there are times when God's ways seem mysterious to us.
However, this particular phrase is not found in the Bible, but flowed from
the pen of hymn writer William Cowper (1731-1800).
