Getting your dog involved in an actual raccoon
hunt is key. It may mean hunting on your own in an area where raccoons
are known to be causing damage or asking another hunter if you and your
dog can go along. In either case, the goal is to give your dog some
first-hand exposure as to what it should be chasing.
Remember to get permission to hunt and let the
landowner know when you will be there. Even then, a coon dog can
easily end up on posted property. Avoid hunting too close to such
areas as well as next to busy highways.
Hunting on Your Own
When hunting on your own, it's important to hit
