There are certain things that every young pup should learn early on in life.  One case in point is to never eat chocolate - especially the chocolate candy bar that humans keep in the medicine cabinet!

It should also be remembered that chocolate (although it may taste great going down) can actually kill us canines.  So, remember my fellow dogs - DON'T ACCEPT CHOCOLATE!  This is particularly true if the chocolate you are offered comes from a medicine cabinet.

Of course what we eat sometimes comes right back up.  However,  as tasty as regurgitation may sound to those of our kind - believe it or not this actually disgusts some humans.  Yes, some things can be hard for humans to swallow.

Furthermore, it seems that the eating of vomit by our kind has consistently bothered folks down through the centuries.  Indeed, this is not some strange new phenomenon.  Why it was even the predominant view in Bible times!  Yes,  the Bible touches on this familiar trait of ours as a means of teaching humans some valuable moral lessons.

As one of my favorite human writers has pointed out, "Some three thousand years ago Solomon noted the tendency of a foolish person to repeat the same moral failures.  He stated, 'As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly' (Proverbs 26:11)" (Devotions for Dog Lovers by Tom C. Rakow, p. 47).  This is also made mention of in New Testament times. Regarding those who make a profession of faith in Christ and then turn away from the faith we are told that the Apostle Peter, " went on  to illustrate and comment on this willful act of rebellion by writing, “Of them the proverbs are true: ‘A dog returns to his vomit,’ and, ‘A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud’” (1 Peter 2:22)" (Devotions for Dog Lovers by Tom C. Rakow, p. 48).

Yes, the Creator of the universe can even use things that humans might find repulsive or  hard to swallow in order to to convey some powerful truths.  But then again, maybe it's the truth that humans find hard to swallow - rather than what we dogs may gulp back down.
